5 Climate Action Strategies for Businesses

Tuesday, 14 September 2021 by admin

The facts stated by the World Health Organization are astounding. As per the organization, climate change is going to cause around 2,50,000 more deaths per year between the decades 2030-2050. But the world also seems determined to fight climate change.

Here is Sweden that comes with the foremost achievements in climate protection. While it seems to be an inspiration for countries like India, much needs to be done in our country’s regard. The climate action perspective takes all new life when we take into consideration Indian businesses. For instance, 57 companies from India have committed to the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This sets the trigger for an elaborative climate action plan and even bigger climate action strategies.

The 5 most substantive climate action plans that can be adopted by businesses are:

1. Cut Down Your Carbon Release

The main sources of carbon emissions within a company are vehicles and furnaces, electricity purchase, travel, heating, and cooling. At least 50% emission reduction in the next 10 years should be the mission of most environmentally conscious businesses.

Source: Power Engineering

The pledge in this regard should be:

  • Preparation of an official base year for maintaining a commitment towards emission reduction.
  • Track and map your self-made emissions with regularity and care.
  • Develop a stringent plan to reach the set target. It is advisable, to begin with targets that are easy to conquer.
  • Build a transparent company avatar when it comes to revealing its emissions and plans, at the office and even at the public level.

Tip:  Click here to take a look at what Apple is doing to go carbon neutral by reducing the emissions from supply chain and product manufacturing.

The bamboo cutlery set offered by Ksamah.com is purely organic and promotes environmental consciousness at individual level.

2. Make Climate Change a Priority While Devising Business Strategies

India is facing various climate change phenomena. Some fact-based examples include a rise in temperature of cities by 48℃ in 2020, a three-fold increase in rainfall since 1950, and a rise in the north Indian ocean level by 3.2 mm per year. Indian businesses need to take a look at these grim facts. And remember them well while realizing their business impact on climate and environment.

Source: Carbon Digital

To begin with, smart business strategies encircling climate should be made. The steps in this direction can be:

  • Add a price on carbon to make climate an important part of business investment procedures.
  • Stay focused on solutions by highlighting them in your portfolio which will even help your consumers to cut down their emissions.
  • Keep your mission and vision statement updated. The up-to-the-minute processes and strategies should showcase your climate pledge.
  • Include climate strategy in devising product and service models and make all the relevant solutions stick to the 1.5℃ ambitious target.

Tip: Read here what NASA says about responding to climate change and include its advice in your business strategies.

3. Contribute Towards Climate Action in Society

Business leaders can be the torchbearers of climate action. Why not experiment with your role as a business leader? Look out for something more proactive. Be a climate leader!

Source: Concordia University Chicago

Climate action can be supported through your business network, customers, suppliers, and NGOs. The success of the Race To Zero Campaign is an example of a collective climate action involving businesses. The commendable campaign represents 733 cities, 3,067 businesses, 173 recognized investors, and 622 higher educational institutions.

You need to pay heed to the following points to excel in your contribution towards climate action in society.

  • Enter into a collaboration with customers and suppliers to ensure a sustainable transformation of value chains.
  • Your financial investments should be integrated with the climate target of 1.5℃. The same should be done for public affairs and policies.
  • Inspire and influence the policymakers at local and national levels to frame policies under the set limitation (1.5℃).

Tip: Apart from collective climate action, you can also gear up for some individual climate change action. Take a look here.

4. Focus on Energy Efficiency

Energy efficiency has the power to reduce costs and risks. It helps to improve brand reputation. And most of all it’s healthy for the planet.

Source: Medium

It is a well-known fact that brands who pay more attention to energy efficiency make dual savings, both in emissions and money. As a company owner when you calculate the carbon footprint of your firm, you will be surprised to know that majority of it revolves around energy use.

All you need to do to focus on energy efficiency is:

  • Draw SMART energy-saving goals for your company. And here SMART means – Specific, Measurable, Accountable, Real, and Timely.
  • A strong tracking and measurement system is a must.
  • Sizeable resources should be put into efficiency by the organization.
  • Organizational support should be accompanied by effective leadership.

Tip: Explore the EP 100 initiative adopted by companies to increase their energy productivity. On an interesting note, this pledge can save greater than $2 trillion by 2030 worldwide.

5. Perform Outstanding Research on Sustainability

A deep-thinking approach towards sustainability can be the only way to achieve a truly green business. Well-documented research on the topic is one of the primary steps to drive active climate action.

Source: SpringerLink

When you decide to take a deep dive into studying the impact of your business, you know that you will be judging a lot of links in your business chain. Through thorough research, you can know about:

  • The state of the community
  • Human and environmental effects across your whole business supply chain
  • The life cycle of materials

Knowing about all the above things is vital to gather the core of sustainability into the heart of your business model.

Tip: Performing Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) and including sustainability experts in the entire research process should be an important consideration.

Ksamah.com offers a wide range of organic natural, zero waste, sustainable, ecological, and ecofriendly products. A must buy for all!!

Lastly…..

Businesses should also not forget the importance of taking small steps. Small steps apart from the above-mentioned ideas can generate a lot of happiness and growth. Perhaps these slightest of efforts like recycling waste, turning to natural light, and using tap water over packaged water can be amazingly beneficial. For individuals, businesses, communities, and the planet!

Top 5 Green Marketing Campaigns That Corporates Should Try

Wednesday, 01 September 2021 by admin

While the world is painted with all the dazzling attractive hues, the corporates, in particular, are embracing the colour ‘Green’. The shade represents calmness, vitality, sustainability, and bountiful life, all pointing towards a prosperous planet. To simply state businesses today have developed green ideologies as an impetus for reaching various successful profit destinations.

In a closer association with green principles and movement is the notion of “Green Marketing”. Being one of the sought-after areas of marketing, it gained notability in the late 1980s and early 1990s. This marketing afterthought evolved in three prominent phases: ecological, environmental, and sustainable green marketing.

The size of the green marketing market will increase right from $5596 million in 2019 to $56050 million in 2025. Focusing on product, place, price, and promotion (4Ps), green marketing campaigns can be the foremost way for corporations to build brand credibility with minimum environmental footprint. Here is how!

1. Adopt and Spread Eco-Friendly Products

Cotton and Jute Bags: Both jute and cotton are natural fibres that are 100% biodegradable. Jute can also be used as a composting material, whereas organic cotton can prevent 218 million litres of water wastage. In terms of their use, these sustainable bags are lightweight, fashionable, and perfect shopping companions.

Source: Ppinds.in

The cotton and jute bags have become a symbol of sustainability in business

Ecological Bottles: As per an estimate, humans purchase around 10,00,000 plastic bottles every minute. And around 60 million plastic bottles are dumped into landfills every day. This is where the use of ecological bottles comes into play with marked significance. Paper bottles are a sustainable alternative for business green marketing as they have pulp exoskeleton, have a 100% biodegradable layer, and are renewable.

silicone bottleSource: Ksamah.com

Silicone ecological bottles are the most preferred for carrying water and more ocean-friendly than plastic.

While sticking to its major green objectives, a company can include these green products in brand promotions. The logo of the firm can also be imprinted on them to make them carry the message of its green commitment.

Motivation: Ksamah’s green marketing technique based on the use of lunch tote bags is an inspiring story. Have a look!

This bag with a hermit crab design is perfect for people who wish to engage in environmental conservation.

2. Send Emails As Green Messengers

Two things about emails are getting popular. First, they are good for the environment. Secondly, they are the future. Check out this fact – In 2019, 3.9 billion people were using email. In 2023, this number is going to rise to 4.3 billion. Why not use this marketing strategy for environmental conservation? After all, emails mean zero paper use.

The other advantages of this green marketing tip are: obtaining faster feedback from customers, removing the need to print promotional flyers, and cost-effectiveness. For some engaging twist to your emails, you can add ‘Green Footers’ (short lines of green coloured text) at the bottom. Such creativity aims to ask the recipient of the email to save paper and avoid printing out of documents. Or use beguiling green footer taglines such as: ‘SAVE PAPER, SAVE TREES’.

Green footers blend creativity with love for Nature

3. Stand Up for Good Environmental Initiatives

Disney ensures that it utilizes zero total greenhouse gas emission policies in all its setups. Nike features a range of sustainable materials like recycled polyester. Tata Motors under its programme Vasundhara has planted 1,24,548 saplings across different places. These environmental initiatives by businesses are a recognition of their environmentally-friendly mindset.

Source: PHS Wastekit

Starting environmental initiatives lies at the heart of saving Earth!

Furthermore, funding such green initiatives can also prove to be a way to gain credibility and confidence. You can also run a foundation or charity that supports your dreams for a low-carbon planet.

4. Use Social Media As a Green Marketing Tool

According to Statista, as of January 2021 Facebook, Youtube, and Instagram have 2,740, 2,291, and 1,221 million monthly users. This makes these social media platforms amongst the most popular ones. Twitter has created a marked record too by achieving 145 million daily users.

From a thought-provoking perspective, social media can turn out to be an excellent green marketing tool. For Facebook, the trick can be – curate emotionally appealing content for the audiences. For instance, when promoting your green clothing brand, you can state the benefits of wearing organic fabrics which include no skin allergies and better health.

Likewise, you can post eye-catching images of your freshly manufactured clothes on Instagram that capture both sustainability and style.

Motivation: Ksamah’s modish ecological bamboo T-shirts are a great example of dressing with a sense and essence of Nature.

This bamboo T-shirt helps to merge eco-friendliness with modern style and design

5. Provide a Green Upgrade to Your Vehicles

Have you got enough resources? Then, why not spend some on providing a green upgrade to your vehicles? Electric cars are quite popular due to their role in improving air quality in towns and cities. Look at this valuable statistic – For over a year, if you run an electric car on the roads, then you will save an average of 1.5 million grams of CO2. Implementing such efficient vehicles is a must for transportation purposes related to travel or product delivery.

Source: Dreamstime.com

Bicycles are a cleaner mode of commutation

Human-powered transport like bicycles is also a good option when it comes to choosing both health and environment over luxurious travelling modes. Bicycles can serve as winsome giveaways on special occasions like “Earth Day” or “World Environment Day”. In this way, you not only promote your company but also influence your buyers in developing an eco-conscious attitude.

End Note

As per Forbes, 87% of the consumers developed a more positive image of a company that supported environmental and social consciousness. Green marketing has within it the thought and action for this sort of consciousness. If planned meticulously, green marketing campaigns can expand businesses by leaps and bounds. And alongside nature will thrive.

All in all, this means many more happy days for our ‘Planet’!

How Businesses Can Advance 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Wednesday, 18 August 2021 by admin

Top 6 ways for Corporates to walk the  Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) path

The year 2015 saw the emergence of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). These 17 goals are ambitious, widespread, and important for the planet. They are meant to be achieved by 2030 and so-referred to as the 2030 Agenda.

SDGs wrap up all three different areas of sustainable development, namely social, economic, and ecological. And who are they meant for? Well, SDGs are vital for everyone. From civil society to academia to corporations, they cover a broad spectrum.

Think like this – Businesses + SDGs = Sustainability + Development. Herein, businesses and SDGs are associated with each other to give outcomes like sustainability and development. This is why 72% of companies state SDGs in their reporting. Another 25% of the firms incorporated SDGs in their produced business strategy. Considering SDGs as a unifying element, businesses can implement them for a positive reputation. The ways are given below:

1. Follow The Philanthropist’s Way

Philanthropy is a unique and charitable way to explore numerous solutions, perform experimentation, and form a closer bond with organizations. Concerning this, corporate philanthropy is also picking up speed especially when it comes to implementing SDGs.

Source: theconversation.com

As per United Nations (UN), India needs $2.5 trillion to reach its climate targets by 2030. So, it is also the responsibility of the private sector to contribute a huge chunk to this financial load. Corporates can pair up with NGOs to create an optimistic impact on SDG related areas.  A good record of all the investments made in NGOs should be kept to create a social value in alignment with SDGs.

Protip: Nonprofits like Malala Fund which advocate the cause of gender equality and women empowerment related to SDG #5 can be supported through voluntary grants.

2. Practice What You Preach About SDGs

With Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) ticking to the number 17, corporates can be open about their business models. They must check whether their existing business model is delivering what SDGs demand. Trend lines highlighted in sustainability reports can be a better option to judge this.

Source: responsible-investor.com

The 13th Annual Sustainability Report released by Infosys in 2020 depicts its choices for building a zero-carbon future. In its key highlights, the report spotlights zero wastewater discharge from the company’s campuses among other sustainability steps.

Protip: The corporate institutions can also increase the living wages of the employees to achieve SDG #1: No Poverty, SDG #2: Zero Hunger, and SDG #8: Decent Work and Economic Growth.

3. Support The Pledge for Clean Sanitation and Water

Among all major necessities of humanity, clean sanitation and water are major ones. But as per WASH facts, in 2017 more than 2 billion people around the world didn’t have access to basic sanitation. In another estimate, it was found that in 2017, 884 million people didn’t have safe water to consume.

Source: publichealthnotes.com

Here businesses can appear as a ray of hope. They can support SDG #6: Clean Water and Sanitation by making their businesses commit to a WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) pledge to make good water and sanitation accessible at the workplace.

Protip: When away from home and at the office, the employees can be encouraged to carry pristine water inside silver stainless steel bottles manufactured by Ksamah.

4. Think to Implement Impressive Business Models

Impact business models tend to make a particularly positive outcome for its stakeholders. They create a social and environmental value through their operational practices, products and services that impart to the SDGs, and other constructive tailings.

Source: hospitalityinsights.ehl.edu

On the contrary, sustainable business models rely on 4 elements:

  1. 1. Commercial profitability
  2. Future success
  3. Long-term use of natural resources
  4. They offer back

Schneider Electric has established a business model that connects its business activities and 17 SDGs through – Development, Climate, Ethics, Circular Economy, and Health & Equity.

Protip: A company can install solar panels to decrease its carbon footprint with a major focus on SDG #7: Affordable and Clean Energy and SDG #13: Climate Action.

5. Pay Taxes Rightfully

It is a common belief that taxation is directly proportional to better finances for development. Look at what follows when not only individuals but corporations also pay their taxes dutifully. Taxes can assist in reducing inequalities in and among societies (SDG 10) and motivate the establishment of reliable political institutions (SDG 16).

Source: nytimes.com

Taxes when paid on time with the right intention can help society transform. The property and income taxes paid by corporate citizens form a protective circle around SDG related environmental and social good.

Protip: Under SDG #17: Partnerships for the Goals, corporations can form an association with the government through taxes to implement SDGs. This is indeed a significant step.

6. Recognize Excellent Behaviours

Recognition of superior attempts and behaviours breeds further brilliance in employees. And when that brilliance is correlated with environmental friendly efforts, then an SDG like “Responsible Consumption and Production” can be achieved.

Source: chartcourse.com

Rewards like “Employee of The Month or Year” are presented to those who get more money for the company. Why not give these awards to those who practice sustainable consumption at the workplace in one form or another? Let the positive habit grow and inspire others through recognition as an incentive.

Protip: Bamboo Face Towel (Green and Grey) and Reusable Coffee Cup (Owl and Meerkat) can be forms of sustainable products to be used in offices. Moreover, Reusable Cutlery Kit and Eco-Coffee/Tea Gift Box can be served as some splendid rewards cum gifts.

Beautifully Presented Eco-Coffee/Tea Gift Box by Ksamah

Summing Up…

When we think of Agenda 2030, a picture of purpose comes before our eyes. In it, we find growth, development, and security. Similarly, when we imagine a business environment, an image of the well-being of employees, gender equality and equal pay, reduction in carbon footprint, etc. strikes us. These images are very much related to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and should be converted from imagination into reality all the time. Businesses can accelerate this mission for sure.

At last,

“The 17 Sustainable Development Goals are amazingly empowering, futuristic, and good”!

AVERT EARTH CRISIS – (100 Times bigger than COVID)

Thursday, 13 May 2021 by admin
THERE IS A CRISIS 100 TIMES BIGGER THAN COVID UPCOMING

Top 5 Things HR Managers Can Immediately do to reduce Carbon Footprint at Workplace
(Authored by Sonali Sharma for PLANET WARMS Newsletter, targeted towards citizens / corporate executives)
1. Create a Paperless Office

Facts: Paper is a major polluter. 50% of the waste generated from offices that is disposed off in landfills is paper. 10,000 sheets of copy paper are utilized by an average office worker annually. And 6,000 kg is the carbon footprint of 1,00,000 paper sheets produced from 8 trees. In addition, approximately 12 trees can be saved by one office if they refuse the use of one ton of paper. Imagine the impact!

The idea of creating a paperless office saves it all. HR Managers can take the first position in this initiative. They can help in converting paper documents into digital workflows that restrict the use of paper at their workplaces. The monthly payment slips can be emailed to employees.  Leave behind the thought of penning down things. Encourage the use of whiteboards and tablets for taking reminders and notes at your office. Many Cloud applications like OneDrive, CamCard, OneNote, OCR can help in creating a paperless office. From document storage to business card scanning, many functions can be performed with zero paper use.  Save paper! Save the environment!

Company Suggestion: Check out this startup https://skoodleart.com/ for ecofriendly office pens/ pencils or reach out to https://www.consultivo.in/ (Amongst India’s top ESG Consultants)

2. Switch Over to Energy Efficient Work Hours

Facts: According to a study by Alliance for an Energy-Efficient Economy (AEEE) the energy consumption in commercial buildings is growing at the rate of 11-12% per year. Energy-related emissions are 6.6%from lighting and appliances used in buildings like offices.

The HR departments can keep an energy-saving agenda as one of the topmost at their workplaces. 100% renewable energy and solar lighting should become the trend. Ensure that the new office equipment carries an ENERGY STAR rating. It has been found that workplace desktops operating for 8 hours use600 kWh and give out 175 kg of CO2 annually. On the other hand, laptops utilize between 150-300 kWh and emit around 44-88 kg of CO2 per year. Replace the former with the latter! The employees should be asked to turn off the lights, PCs, printers etc. when work time is over.

3. Adopt Waste Recycling Completely

Facts: When you recycle a plastic bottle, you conserve energy that can light up a 100-watt bulb for 4 hours. It also leads to 20% lesser air pollution. Moreover, recycling one ton of cardboard boxes prevents 4 tons of CO2 emissions. This means recycling suppresses the carbon footprint of a workplace.

So, now is the time that the corporate HR Managers adopt the 3R’s – Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. Setting up an office recycling program can also do the trick. A Mumbai based startup Skrap (www.skrap.in) looks into the implementation of this program in offices. Perform a waste audit to get an idea of the quantity and nature of the waste being produced at your workplace. Later, recycling points can be provided for different wastes like aluminium cans, food waste, plastic refuse, etc.

Placing mini recycling trays on desks and putting up creative recycling posters are also good ways to involve staff in the recycling process.

4. Rethink About Everyday Commute

Facts: Transport is held accountable for 1/5th of global carbon emissions. During 2014, road transport was mainly responsible for 90% of the GHG emissions. Also, for every litre of fuel burnt inside a car engine, more than 2.5 kg of CO2 is released.

Green Human Resource Management (GHRM) ties environmental management with human resource management. As such, the HR Managers following GHRM can rethink how their employees travel to the office. Walking, cycling and car-pooling are important for reducing carbon footprint. Choosing a bicycle over a car for short trips can decrease emissions by around 75%. If you have to travel given the importance reduce carbon footprint by urging each employee to carry say a ecological travel box curated by Mumbai based eco startup – www.ksamah.com (Save Trees, water on the go). Organize more virtual meetings instead of in-person gatherings, if meetings involve long-distance travels. Working remotely has its benefits for the environment. For example, if you decide to work from home for half a week, you can reduce GHG emissions by 54 million tons per year.

5. Do Corporate Gifting in an Eco-Friendly Way

Facts: In 2013, the normal gift cards had 5,85,300 tons of annual carbon footprint. Contrary to this, bamboo-made products are better gifting options as they are environmentally friendly and degrade within 4 years. Bamboo produces 30% more oxygen and lowers the level of GHGs.

A Mumbai based startup www.KSAMAH.com is into sustainable corporate boxes and also curates sustainable ecological boxes for employees of companies encouraging each one to reduce the carbon footprint.

Special occasions such as employee anniversaries, megaproject completion, new hires, at the workplace can be used to create a positive environmental impact. Green plants have an aesthetic value and add natural elegance to a workspace. Presenting such valuable unrefined tokens also help in instilling environmental consciousness among office members.

Knit sustainability into the core of your organization by developing an eco-friendly way of corporate gifting to each employee. For instance, explore organic gifting options like Ksamah eco-friendly office boxes. These products focus on zero-waste practice, minimize the carbon footprint at one go, and direct towards office sustainability.

Final Note

Planet Earth is our ‘Home’. It is warming at an unprecedented rate. Carbon footprint is a looming culprit behind it. Major liability is entrusted to the corporates when it comes to shrinking carbon footprint. Within corporates, the HR Managers can govern the cycles of carbon emissions while employing stringent policies and taking immediate steps.

Finally…..

“Building corporations is a dream of many. Running corporations on the line of sustainability with negative carbon emissions should be the vision of everybody.”

Zero Waste Living – Climate Reality!!

Thursday, 11 March 2021 by admin
zero waste

You all must have heard about going zero waste. Some of you might even be Eco-warriors or eventually, want to be one. In the latter case knowing about zero waste and implementing it becomes crucial.

The covid pandemic brought about a great deal of awareness to everyone about the environmental impact of human settlement. One thing is clear- “We need to respect the natural cycle.”

Okay, so let’s start with what zero waste really is. Firstly, you must credit Paul Palmer for coming up with the term zero-waste way back in the 1970s.

Secondly, exact definitions may vary, but to put it simply, zero waste is a method of waste management and prevention wherein reuse and recycling of all products are encouraged.

The main aim is that no waste should be left to burn or be sent to landfills.

So, first by starting to reuse all the extra waste that we produce and eventually when that is all used up, producing only what is required so as not to produce any waste in the first place. In an ideal zero-waste system all the materials will be reused until the optimum level of consumption.

Effective waste management is one the most impactful things you can do to improve your day-to-day activities or even your business operations while simultaneously achieving your sustainability goals, and controlling your waste costs, which tend to go up every year.

One of the simplest ways to reduce excess waste is by switching plastic products with eco-friendly products that don’t clog up the oceans or landfills. Eco-friendly alternatives may include products made of bamboo, hemp, jute, rice husk fiber, etc.

Bamboo is the most interesting one amongst all the aforementioned options as it is the most versatile. It has countless uses and just like plastic it can be used almost anywhere without having to worry about its sturdiness.

Let’s discuss the benefits of Bamboo.

Not only can bamboo grow three or four feet in a single day but also has greater strength than maple. Bamboo has more compressive strength than concrete and the same strength-to-weight ratio as steel. Which is absolutely mind-boggling!

Replenished from an intricate network of roots, a stalk of bamboo grows to its maximum height of around 80 feet within just two months. After this, it begins to thicken; the walls of each hollow stalk grow harder and denser as its soft internodes convert into fibrous cellulose.

Although there are over a thousand species of bamboo, Moso is the one perfect for manufacturing into our beautiful, durable products. When it is ready for harvest, organically grown Moso bamboo is cut and carried out of the forest on foot by family farmers. This gentle harvesting method sustains the grove’s delicate root system for future growth.

Moso bamboo is also not part of the Panda’s diet or habitat. It works out perfectly for us as we wouldn’t want to deprive those beautiful creatures of their food.

And because it is durable and attractive, bamboo is also the best alternative to cutting tropical rainforests for their exotic hardwoods.

Finally, the gentler cultivation methods (no artificial pesticides, no clear-cutting, and replanting) used to grow bamboo is less disruptive to the birds that naturally make their homes in bamboo groves.

It isn’t just a case of something becoming trendy, the way beards and owls did when hipsters began defining our aesthetic preferences. Bamboo has a number of properties that make it a legitimately great resource for our environment.

Unlike hardwood trees like oaks, a bamboo plant can grow back after it’s been harvested. It can grow quickly, up to a yard a day. Its roots can absorb, or leach, metals from the soil, making the land it’s growing healthier for animals and other plants.

It also doesn’t need a lot of nutrients to grow, so it doesn’t require the heavy use of chemical fertilizers that are seen with other crops.

Once bamboo plants are older and well-established, their roots can hold soil in place and prevent it from washing away in storms, which keeps healthy topsoil that’s good for growing crops in places where farmers need it.

Bamboo appears to be even more efficient than other trees at removing excess carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

If you all have been fascinated by bamboo just like I was when I first learnt about it and would love to help save the planet, then you should check out our lovely Home Box which consists of daily use products made from the finest bamboo out there.

It has a bamboo-made toothbrush, rice fiber-made cutlery, napkins, soap, shampoo, etc. It is the best way to contribute to saving our planet just by sitting at home. Maybe even tell your friends about us and enable them to save the planet too!

Here’s the link to our Home Box: https://ksamah.com/product/ksamah-ecological-home-box/

You can also check out our other bamboo made products here: www.ksamah.com

FUN FACT

Do you know wealthier people produce more carbon pollution than poor people?

Here is the fact: It is found that during this period: The richest 10 percent (approx. 630 million people) accounted for over half (52 percent) of the carbon dioxide emissions. The richest one percent accounted for 15 percent of emissions — more than twice that of the poorest half of humanity (7 percent).

Climate Change Is Real

Friday, 05 March 2021 by admin
climate crisis

A usual day at Emma’s house when her father John is watching the news on Television. She hears the word ‘climate change’ and asks “dad, we all know that the weather changes every few months, then why is it in the news? Isn’t it normal?” Emma’s father smiles and says “climate change is not the change in weather from summer to winter and so on, it is a huge problem these days. Have you heard of global warming?” Emma replies “yes, I have. It is the rise in Earth’s temperature making it warmer”. “Yes, you’re absolutely correct, that is one aspect of Climate Change” says Emma’s father. Emma is curious to know more and starts watching the news with her dad but because she is still not very clear with the concept, she gets confused. After the news program is over, she requests her dad to explain Climate Change to her. John is very impressed to see his daughter’s interest in such topics. John starts explaining Climate Change to Emma ; “I’m sure you must have heard of terms like coal, natural gas and oil. These are called fossil fuels. Over the years, fossil fuels have been used excessively which is the main contributor to Climate Change”. Emma listens to her dad very carefully and asks him examples of how Climate Change has affected the earth. Her father says “Yes, I will tell you about how our planet has been affected but first there are a few more activities that have contributed to climate change like, Deforestation which means clearing a wide area of trees to make way for human activities such as infrastructural development, mining,
dam construction etc. Another contributor is Greenhouse Gas Emission, the rise in the level of Carbon Dioxide has lead to Climate Change”. “Now let us talk about how Climate Change has affected the earth. Increase of rainfall, shrinking of ice, rising sea levels and rapidly changing sea levels are some of the effects of Climate Change that the world has already seen. Emma is worried about her planet and wants to save it, she asks her father how she can help. Her father tells her that using more of renewable resources, planting more trees, using biodegradable goods can help positively but for this everyone should contribute. Emma tells her dad that she will share this important piece of information with her friends at school so they can contribute their bit to reduce Climate Change and Save The World.

Plastic Eating ROBOT : A Planet Hero

Thursday, 11 February 2021 by admin
plastic eating robot

Hi, I am Roe, Roe the plastic eating Robot. My owner, scientist Nancy made me because
plastic is a huge problem all over the world. I eat the plastic waste so that it is not disposed incorrectly by humans. Incorrect disposal which is very common can harm our mother earth and we must not do so. I am here to educate children about the harmful effects of plastic and how I help in making our planet a better place.

I also must tell you that I am not just one robot, but many who are made with the same technology and will be all over the world to help people out with plastic disposal. Let me tell you how I work, I can take about 250kgs of plastic at one go which is quite a lot. Once I eat the plastic, it goes into my stomach just like food for humans. This plastic is then broken down into smaller pieces with the help of the technology I am made up of. Once the plastic starts to get disposed, a green light is switched on which signals that I can be given more plastic.

My owner and developer Nancy is trying make many robots like me that will educate children and will be placed in public places such as markets, play grounds, schools, university etc. so that the waste is disposed in a way which does not harm the environment. You also must be wondering where the disposed plastic goes, so let me tell you. Once the plastic is broken down into smaller molecules, the trash is collected which goes for recycling. I would not want to praise myself but I am like a hero for our planet earth, I save the waste from going into the oceans and harming the aquatic animals and I have also reduced the amount of waste that is burned down. This burning of plastic releases hazardous gases in the air which are harmful for us to breathe and also cause air pollution which is a major issue all around the world.

So from now, dispose plastic properly and become a PLANET HERO like me.

Teeny tiny things that you should do to save Earth

Thursday, 07 January 2021 by admin
product cycle

In case you are wondering, this is not yet-another-post-asking-you-to-buy-a-reusable-bag-or-a-bamboo-toothbrush-or-even-bamboo-t-shirt-or-a-bamboo-jewellery-or-even-a-rice-husk-
dinnerware-or-atleast-a-bamboo-fibre-hand-towel-and-face-towel! (Now, those are excellent products to buy and that’s innovative, let me take a pat on the back for bringing that to you through Ksamah. In fact, on another thought, you should buy all of that, coz why not!) In fact, this post will
make you work your brain cells and look beyond your organic bedsheets while you slowly sip your morning cup of organic tea and force you to make decisions that will help the environment. Buying Ksamah merchandise is a great start to contribute to an environmentally friendly lifestyle, but that’s not where you stop.

Although purchasing eco-friendly products like Ksamah offers and documenting your
environmentally conscious purchase on social media and spreading awareness is a blessed start, I have realized that the message of being environmentally conscious gets submerged in the very many insta-trends. So, I have created this teeny tiny list of things that you should do to save the Earth.

1. Volunteering in your Neighborhood:
Whether you go for a picking trash while you do your morning runs or for weekend planting, every kind volunteering act goes a long way in saving the environment. Building a community who shares the same interest as you do will help your locality to remain clean and green. You can always share Ksamah merchandise with your environmentally conscious friends or you can share our bamboo straw with your significant other while you share a coconut water with your significant other (wink wink) after picking trash in your morning runs.

2. Contact the Bigshots:
Call all stops and write an email to your favorite brand, or the government requesting them to change the things that you dislike because it is not green enough to you. Instead of simply ranting about it to your friends and family, it is better to get creative and give your ideas to the big brands that have the power to bring change. Yes, change happens small, but a lot of times the people in power are able to take huge steps in bringing about a substantial change. If writing emails is not your thing, ask your favorite café, restaurant, thela to use eco-friendly packaging and serving wares. You can take a Ksamah rice husk plate to show it to them. In fact, gift them! Spread some love while you preach.

3. Be the Dinosaurs of DIY:
Use and use and use the items that you have before throwing it away. Get creative with the
ways you can use the same products before thinking of buying more. We are all guilty of buying one extra bamboo straw even when we don’t need it because it is so instagram worthy. But hey! Go easy with your purchases. Be frugal. In fact, we have made being frugal easy for you. Order
Ksamah Home Box and remove all items from the packaging. Use the Packaging box (we have made it chic and unique just for you to enjoy it) to store your knick-knacks, kids craft supplies, toys, throw blankets, or make a decorative piece out of it on a centre/coffee table. You can even ask your child to cut out all the animal shapes on the packaging and make a beautiful bunting out of it or color the white on the packaging. Get as creative as you can and don’t forget to tag us #ksamah to feature on our instagram page.

4. Read, Read, Read and then Read some more:
Read the labels of all the things that you buy and educate yourself. Understand where the product you are buying is coming from. Ask yourself: Is it from an ethical source, is it
environmentally friendly, is it contributing in any way to help save the Earth? If no, then keep it right back on the shelf. Ksamah has made reading labels easier and fun for you with all the lovely animals on the packaging. Have you seen the meerkat? Or the sting ray on the packaging? Go checkout and show some love. Surprise yourself with all the information.

5. Donate: Give something to Get something:

Are you in a fix and you don’t know what to give to your friends on their Birthdays? Why not donate on their name for them instead of giving a physical gift. It’s thoughtful and spiritually healing as well. If you still wish to buy a physical gift, look no further, we’ve got you covered. (Slow motion wink).

6. Walk that extra mile:
Walk instead of taking a car or a bike and Cycle to work if you can. Walk everywhere you can and you will significantly reduce your carbon footprint. You will be blessed with the added benefit of a good health. Even though the harsh sun will always be there making it an uphill task for you, choose to walk. If you are sweaty, use Ksamah Face Towel (got you there, haha) and if you are
thirsty, use Ksamah Water Bottle (got you again!) Did you know, Ksamah Water bottle keeps the water cool for 24 hours in it? Anyways, there will be days when you feel like a total lazy bum and wouldn’t feel like moving even an inch and there will be instances when you do take your car, in those instances don’t forget to take along your Ksamah Car Box (I can’t stop laughing).

P.s. Jokes apart, I know maintain a sustainable lifestyle is hard. I also know temptation and desire
to let go of your sustainable ways will arise often and you will end up purchasing that mineral
water bottle and contribute to the enormous amount of plastic already present in the dump, you
will slip here and there, in those moments, forgive yourself. Brush yourself up, and work towards
saving our precious, precious Earth, because, this is EARTH’S LAST CHANCE!
